A resistance movement in the advertisement industry
The advertising industry is full of intelligent, creative people who actually reject their work. Adblockers now offers them an option for action: on the leaking platform, confidential documents about planned advertising campaigns can be passed on to adbusting groups.
Something with advertising, naturally. We all know these people who somehow stumbled into advertising and now spend their days crafting elaborate justifications for why it’s all really not that bad. The occasional pangs of conscience are soothed by the agency with generous Pizza Fridays, mediocre salaries, lavish production budgets, an indispensable foosball table in the office, and “room for creativity” massaged away.
But sometimes the ethical doubts do come up anyway. When Nestlé, known for water privatization, rainforest destruction, animal testing, and child labor, commissions a pretty greenwashing campaign from the agency. When, despite all discussions about climate protection, advertising continues cheerfully for flying, eating meat, consuming. Or when a hardware store works on a campaign based on a racist joke.
What then? Leave the agency? Close your eyes and push through? Develop a convenient moral blindness? Register concerns with the boss? Nice try. We offer another option: on adblockers.de, material about planned advertising campaigns can be leaked. With the right information and the necessary lead time, we and our network of adbusting groups craft a counter-campaign that specifically exposes the advertising campaign and ruins a successful campaign launch.

Advertisement against advertisement
To bring the message directly to the right people, we went to Hamburg and advertised in front of the offices of two major advertising agencies: Scholz & Friends and Jung von Matt. We hung posters, distributed flyers and stickers, and approached many, many advertising people.
