With the help of a bot we've called particularly ruthless real estate companies and landlords and confronted them with the fate of the tenants displaced by them. When profit margins after renovations seem lucrative, many real estate companies and estate-owners use ruthless methods in order to chase the tenants living in their property. Evictions are brutal and leave deep wounds in people’s lives.
Many stories stay invisible and the former tenants are left alone with their problems and anger.
Whilst landlords are making money, the tenants’ lives are tormented by the loss of their homes and the social net of the district is destroyed.
Using the former tenants’ statements, our programmed bot called the offices and the private numbers of the estate-owners (both individuals and companies) and played the stories of the displaced people. The bot was calling at random times of day and night for two weeks. The ghosts of the evicted tenants returned to haunt their former landlords.
